Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected when someone uses Lewis County Criminal History, the reasons it may be used, and the limited circumstances in which it may be disclosed. Visiting or using the website signifies acceptance of these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Lewis County Criminal History does not retain or record those search terms on its own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

When a visitor sends an email, the message is retained as needed to prepare a response. It remains within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.

Data We Gather Automatically

Technical information can be collected when a visitor loads or uses the website, including:

  • The device's internet protocol address
  • Browser name and version
  • Operating system and device category
  • Pages viewed and time spent on them
  • The referring website, when available
  • The date and time of each visit

Cookies and Analytics

Small files known as cookies may be saved on a device to help measure use, such as popular Lewis County record pages and where visitors leave the website. Analytics providers combine traffic data for reporting. A browser can be set to reject cookies, although blocking them may change how some features work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Maintain site availability, speed, and function
  • Route a submitted search to the correct outside provider
  • Measure which Lewis County resources visitors use
  • Find and correct performance or technical problems
  • Present advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Lewis County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its content identifies official access routes, including Lewis County record custodians, Kentucky State Police (KSP), and the Kentucky State Police Sex Offender Registry. KSP operates Kentucky's centralized criminal-history system under KRS 17.140. This website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor information is not compiled into consumer reports or files about other people.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted through a search box is handled under that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its own retention, use, and disclosure practices. Visitors should review those terms before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Lewis County offices, Kentucky courts, KSP, legal-aid organizations, or outside search services. After a visitor follows one, the destination's policy governs the visit because Lewis County Criminal History does not control that website. Review its privacy terms before providing personal information.

Some advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select targeted advertising. That processing does not occur on systems controlled by Lewis County Criminal History.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal information is not sold. Limited data may be disclosed to:

  • Advertising networks that deliver ads
  • Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
  • Search providers that process visitor queries
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable and customary security measures are used to protect collected information. No online service can promise complete security, however, so Lewis County Criminal History cannot guarantee that unauthorized access or another breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If information from a minor is identified, a request may be made for its prompt deletion.

Your Data Rights

Kentucky law may provide rights based on the type of information and the body holding it. The Kentucky Open Records Act, KRS 61.870 through 61.884, governs access to qualifying records held by public agencies, while KRS 17.140 governs Kentucky's centralized criminal-history system under KSP. Those public-record laws do not convert Lewis County Criminal History into a government custodian. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:

  • Request access to personal information held about that visitor
  • Ask for inaccurate information to be corrected
  • Request deletion of personal information
  • Decline certain forms of data processing

Updates to This Policy

This privacy policy may be revised as practices or legal duties change. A revised version will be posted here with a new effective date, and continued use after posting is subject to that version.
